Home Office Design and
Organisation

Home office design depends largely on your circumstances - many of us are not lucky enough to have a room that we can turn over to use as our 'home office'.

However, wherever you find yourself working (and my 'office' is in my kitchen!) you should try to get as comfortable, organised and child-protected as can be.

Now, anyone who knows me will laugh because my 'space' in my kitchen is a mess. I never have pens or pencils because my kids pinch them, and many times I find little doodles and scribbles where they shouldn't be. I bought a large computer desk with doors all the way up and if I were more tidy and organised, it would probably be just right! However, it rarely gets closed up and so stuff just accumulates and kids get access.

Although I would love my own home office space it just isn't practical for me, so this is what I make do with. And that's the key - adapt whatever you have. If you have a whole room, fine. If you have a little computer desk in the corner of your living room, adapt it and get yourself 'set up' so you can work. If I 'feel' organised I usually work much better.

Home Office Design and Your Health

Home office design needs to work around what you have, but one thing that you should be careful of is your health. Since working from home I hardly ever have a cold (as you're not in contact with all those office germs!!) but I have had problems with my back and migraines. I bought a 'proper chair', a monitor riser and decent lighting but I still end up slouching or sitting wrong but I at least I am aware of what I should be doing and if I feel pain coming on I can correct it (and I treated myself to a back massager that fits to my chair hehe)

The following videos show you how to set up your workstation to avoid health problems and the basic set up of a home office space.

PS - I highly recommend a mini-trampoline and loud music too, but that's another story :)
