| July 28, 2006 00:01 - Welcome to Toolkit News!
This is my first entry using a new blogging system which means I can update on a daily basis and not have to schedule time to sit down and write pages of content, which slows everything down!

July 28, 2006 00:43 - Here we go!
I am so excited about this new feature - my notebooks are bursting with things I want to tell you about but before using this new blogging system I either had to use little bloglets or had to sit down and plan out some quality content pages.
Now, if I want to tell you something...I can. No more waiting - so watch this space :-)

July 28, 2006 20:39 - "Surviving Google"
Every now and again Google makes some of their 'Changes' and the SEO/Webmaster community gets itself in a spin.
They did it just recently, penalising AdWords advertisers with sites that have poor quality landing pages - any advertising sites that provide a 'poor user experience' have now got to pay more for their 'clicks' via AdSense.
Unfair though? No, I don't think so.
Google is wanting to make sure surfers are getting the best net experience from them - probably among other things ;-) - and so they want you to provide good quality pages. By making you pay more for your advertising, which you won't want to do since I hear the increases have been pretty steep, they are forcing you to 'look at your site' and improve it.
The types of sites affected are:
- single page/sales letter sites
- sites with duplicate content or
- pages with too many ads
...this includes all those 'AdSense ready' sites and some poorly built affiliate sites, with no really valuable content.
In response to these latest Changes at Google HQ, Affiliate Classroom have put out an excellent report with 9 essential tips for maximising your content so that Google will love your site - something we should all take a look at, even if our sites aren't the offending type ;-)
Check out the report now, you are sure to find something you can act on to improve your Google rating.
Good luck :D

July 31, 2006 12:35 - Be prepared to defend yourself
If you 'work at home' you might think you have 'seen the light' but I'm afraid those around you might not react in the 'oh good for you' way you might expect.
Although survey statistics show that 70% would like to start our own little business and work from home, or at least work for ourselves, those who are unable to do so (for whatever reasons) might look down on you with bitterness - you don't REALLY work...you CAN'T be WORKING if you're sat at home!
This is particularly true for WAHMs like me. It's just an extension of the typical 'you're at home all day' that stay at home mothers have faced - nevermind that they are keeping the house and family running, they are just 'at home' so obviously having an easy ride. Any man who has had to take on this role, even for a short time, soon sees that staying at home is NOT the easy option - and how many times do you hear people saying they go to work to 'get away for a bit' :-)
Anyhow, I digress...
The point is, if you work at home, and especially if you are a work at home mom, be prepared to feel you have to justify what you do.
Obviously not everyone is going to be negative towards you, the majority will be 'hey good for you', but you WILL get the odd comment (most likely behind your back ;-) ) whcih insinuates that you're not really working if you're at home all day.
Speaking from personal experience I have heard the 'it's more a hobby than work' and the 'wish I could stay at home all day on the computer', or even 'I have to work full time...'
...even though when you work at home you tend to put in as much time as you can and can often exceed normal 'full time' hours! If I work when my kids are in bed, into the early hours of the morning, why is that not valid 'work'?
I am lucky, my circumstances mean 'work at home' is the best solution for me, and thankfully I discovered the best way of doing it, but it still hurts when you come up against views like this. (Here's the link)
